Overview
I enjoyed my time at EY and gained a real insight into a corporate job at a professional but friendly firm. I learnt about personal and private tax which involved conversing with HMRC and other tax teams. I met a lot of the team, from graduates up to partners. All work given was at an appropriate level and you were supported throughout.
Skills
My communication skills have improved, as have my excel skills. I also learnt how to use software unique to EY as well as draft tax returns.
Responsibilities
Responsibility was somewhat limited and work was often hard to find at points when members of the team did not have work at the appropriate level or little work in general.
Support & Guidance
All work was supported and anything you were unsure on people were very open to explain.
Culture
EY has a great culture and friendly atmosphere where everyone is approachable.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement and the opportunities i was given to learn about other service lines in EY. However I was slightly disappointed by the lack of flexibility to change servicelines or have a conversation about shaping a career in EY to my vision.
Yes
Be yourself and ensure you know what a serviceline entails before applying as there is little flexibility to change.
