    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As an audit intern, I assisted my team and seniors with the tasks they were working on. These included revenue testing, cash anchor testing, minuting key meetings, and reviewing and summarizing internal audit reports. My job essentially was to assist my team with the more general, high-level tasks, so that they could focus on the more difficult tasks that required their expertise. With that being said, my team and seniors made sure to give me a wide range of tasks, including more technical ones, as they were keen to aid my learning.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • In terms of technical skills, I have improved my Microsoft Excel skills and have learnt how to navigate the internal EY Canvas portal. With regards to soft skills, I managed to develop my interpersonal and communication skills as I had to often meet clients during meetings and work with my team. My time management has significantly improved as well as there were times I had to juggle multiple tasks at the same time.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, according to my team and from conversations with my peers, I was handed more difficult tasks for an intern. For example, I sent an email to the client's finance team members with the cash anchor testing that I had assisted with. I believe that this was also due to the fact that I study Accounting and Finance at university, so my team felt that I was able to understand the concepts discussed without much coaching.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • From the day I started my internship, I have always felt fully supported and received a great amount of guidance from my team, seniors, counsellor, and buddy. They have always obliged to answer all my questions whether they were pertaining to work or other matters, and have always been friendly towards me. I would say that 80% of the reason why I enjoyed my internship was because of the people I was surrounded by.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Although it was only for a month, I genuinely enjoyed my internship as I gained a firsthand experience of working in an audit team, learnt/developed skills outside the classroom as I had to work in a team, and made what I hope to be lasting connections with the people around me.
