The Role
I'm glad I did a placement, it has been a worthwhile experience.
My colleagues were all lovely and extremely friendly. Occasionally I got the blame for something that wasn't my fault, so not quite a 10.
My supervisor explained things really well, and had unlimited patience with me.
Often I would be at the computer for weeks on end, not always with that much to do. Or some weeks I would be non-stop busy in the lab.
I don't feel I was given enough freedom in designing my own experiments, although I was trusted with carrying out important experiments that had not been designed by me.
I have learned a lot about how things work within an office community, and my practical skills have been dramatically improved.
The Company
A nice atmosphere.
The contractors, SRG, were terrible, always messing up the pay to students. The week to week activities had a certain amount of structure.
I was taught techniques in full to benefit the development of drugs in the company.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
They are cutting down on employment within biology R&D.
The Culture
Lots of things going on, just the right amount.
Not bad prices.
Lots of pubs/bars, but only one proper night club.
There was a scheme called an 'orange day', where you could spend a work day outside of the company doing some volunteer work.
