Overview
It involves attending the daily catchup call with my team and listening into any updates on the engagement and upcoming tasks and deadlines. I am usually then assigned a task or two by a senior which I then complete during the day or according to when it is due.
Skills
I have become more comfortable using excel which I had never properly used before, developed my awareness of the importance of professionalism and become a better communicator.
Responsibilities
Given that my team were working towards submitting the final audit and archiving it, I was not given much responsibility in the beginning given that I was new to the engagement. However, as time went on and I Iearnt more about audit, I was assigned more tasks to do with the planning phase for next year's audit.
Support & Guidance
On my first day, I met my buddy who helped me set up my laptop and guided me on how to book a desk, but I was not contacted by him after that. I met my counsellor in my third week and he was really helpful and receptive to my feedback and my thoughts on my experience. My counsellor and I discussed feedback from my team and we discussed the prospect of me working at EY and audit in general. I had a meeting with a member of the SIP team where I was able to have a catchup with a member of the team and discuss how my internship was going so far which was also useful and thoughful.
Culture
The company culture was very accepting and I didn't feel like an outsider at any point. As an intern, I was consistently encouraged to always ask questions which made me feel at ease and demonstrated that EY has an open working atmosphere where questions are seen as a positive rather than a hindrance.
Your Impressions
I would say that I enjoyed my internship and am grateful that I was given an insight into the financial services working world. It was interesting to go behind the scenes of finance and be involved in the processes that contribute to clarity and honesty which contributes to a more smooth running financial world.
Yes
Be proactive in seeking out opportunities, talking to other colleagues and do not fear asking questions as it is greatly encouraged and enables everyone to work better and more efficiently.
