Overview
Fixing problems raised within specific bugs, encompassing all mechanical elements of the machine, within engineering drawings, designs, reviews, or assemblies. Using Mechanical Engineering skills to find solutions to various problems and provide suitable solutions that satisfy all stakeholder needs.
Skills
Learnt skills such as how to create an Engineering Drawing, up to company ISO standards, which is not taught at University, and skills that allow analytical mindset to consider varying factors while designing, such as machining capabilities, fastener sizes, thread engagement, etc. Built and developed existing skills such as collaboration, presentational skills, communication, and confidence
Responsibilities
Initially, I was given smaller tasks to help build my skillset slowly; as I developed and expanded my skills, I was given more and more responsibility and more important tasks, which had a larger impact on the company and processes.
Support & Guidance
Support and guidance was always available, coming into work every day meant that I was constantly surrounded by other placement students, apprentices, employees, and managers. This allowed me to constantly ask questions and was able to receive a lot of support and guidance when necessary.
Culture
Everyone around the workplace is very friendly and always happy to answer questions, there are frequent social events that are optional, and an open canteen seating area means that people can socialise and chat whilst having lunch.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement for the last 13 months, I have felt like a full ASMPT employee and have thrown myself into every opportunity, no matter how daunting it may seem. With all the responsibility and work I have been given, I have never been sat counting down the hours and have always had something to work on and pass the time with.
Yes
Just be confident, confidence in an interview sets a first impression, don't be afraid to admit you don't know something - it is expected that you wont as a student! Look into accommodation early and search beforehand for any sports teams, socialisation teams, or activities that you would like to be a part of.
