    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I would complete multiple daily actions whilst working at BMW. These include things such as when I was on the BMW suspense account, I would reconcile all transactions within each account from the previous day on a daily basis. I would also complete reloads, right to withdrawals and reactivations for financed agreements. Alongside this, I would also be looking at the balance sheet and completing reconciliations for them in preparation for the month end process.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot in such a short space of time. Whether this is just improving my efficiency with finding shortcuts on excel or even program's I have never even used before like seal and IFT, to actually learning and putting into practice my knowledge of accounting and finance from the modules I have been learning at University. I will also gain a SAF expert qualification throughout my time on this internship.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, my manager was aware that I was only here for a short time (3 months) instead of the traditional year long interns. And I mentioned to them before that I wanted to do as many different tasks as possible to really experience what it was like working here in their team. As a result, I was given multiple different daily activities to complete as well as also other tasks during the month end process.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had meetings with my line manager around every month and I also had a mentor who was in my team whilst on my internship. We would arrange a meeting every couple of weeks. But it wasn't if I was stuck I could only go to my mentor, all of my team was extremely helpful including my line manager and if I was ever stuck or had a question they were only a desk or email away.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was very flexible in terms of how they offered hybrid working where i was only required to go into the offices twice a week. As well as this, they offered flexible working hours which was also very beneficial as it meant if I had a doctors appointment or something else that meant I would be busy in the day a little bit then it wouldn't be an issue as long as i made the time up.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience as I have learned lots of new skills whilst working here. It has also set a high standard of working conditions for my future career path wherever that may take me. Not only this, but i really did enjoy learning all of the different tasks and responsibilities people had within my team as I didn't really know what to expect as i had only done a couple accounting and finance modules whilst at university so seeing everything go into practice was really enjoyable for me to experience.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK
  • Research the company and their CSR goals and objectives etc, make sure to prepare for the interview and practice with someone you know before the real thing. But, don't stress out about it too much as long as you are prepared I'm sure you will be fine. Also have a glass of water nearby just in case to help ease the nerves or even stall if you can't think of something there and then.
