Overview
The scheme was organised to spend a week in two different departments. Whilst there were many interesting talks / workshops / networking / socials, the emphasis was on spending time in departments completing the work of a trainee. The departments I spent time in made great effort to get me involved in real client work, which included (amongst other things): Drafting emails to clients, attending conferences with counsel and legal research.
Skills
My attention to detail and time management skills were tested and honed during the two week scheme. Each day there were workshops / networking / socials to attend, that you had to balance around the work provided by your supervisors in each department. It was challenging but incredibly useful and good practice for a future career in law. My knowledge of the two areas of law has also significantly expanded.
Business Insight
It was interesting given that RPC has such a diverse range of specialisms. After the 2 weeks, I feel as though I understand the business and its USP.
Culture
Great effort was made by the Early Talent Team, each department, as well as everyone else I had to opportunity to talk to, to make the vacation schemers feel welcome. I genuinely felt like a member of the team of each department I spent time in. Overall it is apparent RPC takes its culture very seriously. Every law firm says they have a nice culture, but I can confirm that RPC does.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the scheme. I particularly liked how both departments made an effort to include me in real client work.
