Overview
I would review requests from the client, checking what is still outstanding and what has been submitted. We had daily team catch ups to run through plan for the day. I would shadow senior members of the team, make notes of the work they were doing and would replicate that work to other entities using the documents submitted by clients to extract data and input it into our files. Finally we had a project we worked on as interns where we had to come up with recommendations to a Social Enterprise about an issue outlined to them
Skills
I learned some new skills for sure. Starting with developing my communication skills I feel like I was exposed to different groups of people, clients, team members both senior and on associate level. Team working skills were also developed, working with other interns on the project from different offices. My analytical skills were enhanced as I had to use pivot tables to extract the data I needed from large data pools sent to us by client.
Responsibilities
I was given responsibility throughout my programme, this increased over time. Starting I would prepare emails or messages that were reviewed before being sent off but after time I was okay to send these off without approval. Later I could use my own initiative to send messages a I decided was appropriate without having to ask whether we should or should not message the client. I was also given responsibility for one part of the engagement with my name on the excel file and I had to contact the client ask for the documents and make sure they have been documented appropriately.
Support & Guidance
PWC offers you multiple support pillars. I had a buddy who was amazing, he was open, friendly, always willing to help and overall a great person. After a short period of time we developed an amazing relationship with him and I look forward to seeing him again next September. My Career coach was also superb, she was always there if I needed help, no question was silly for her and she made sure we felt welcomed to the company by organising a dinner with other team members from the wider office which was nice. Apart from this all team members were all so helpful, upon joining I was messaged by multiple team members to welcome me which was really nice.
Culture
So Aberdeen is a smaller office with overall around 100 employees. This meant the atmosphere was better I say than most offices, people from different lines of service all got along well, everyone was friendly, happy, talked a lot and were just so good. It felt good to come to the office, given the opportunity to work from home I choose to come to the office every day because it felt so good to be in the office. We had a lot of team events, there was an informal agreement where everyone got lunch together at 12 so yeah it was just really good atmosphere all the time
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot. It was better that I have expected. Personally I can't imagine how they could have made it any better. Only one thing that could be improved was the training, it was kinda prolonged and made up 25% of the internship which I found too long. I would personally prefer training to be more condensed and intense so we could do some real work more quickly. Other interns were great and I made some amazing friends which was nice and made the experience better overall.
Yes
I would start by doing your research but focus on research which is applicable to your line of service and office. Study the office you are applying to, the people there and culture. Also study the industry, PWC offers great news articles about any breakthroughs in the industry so studying this is important. Finally PWC has a great focus on technology, especially AI and sustainability, both are guaranteed to be asked in both video interview and assessment center so I would at least have an awareness of how this impacts PWC
