Overview
Interns are tasked with helping their assigned team with different evidence gathering activities, typically involves a lot of checking documents submitted by the client, verifying their accuracy and then documenting them in an excel spreadsheet. However your associate/senior associate can ask you to help with any area of the audit if needed e.g. client calls
Skills
The first week is dedicated to training where senior associates train you in the basics of audit, accounting, PwC, ethics etc. This allowed me to gain a more thorough understanding into audit and PwC as a whole and learn more about the different software PwC uses to complete their audits
Responsibilities
Initially my team kept a close eye on me and were always quick to help if I had any questions, however further along into my internship they gained trust in me and my work, so didn't need to monitor me as closely. The most responsibility I was given was to lead a client facing call.
Support & Guidance
The associates/senior associates I worked most closely with supported and guided me the whole way. They encouraged me to ask as many questions as I could think of to better my understanding and were never dismissive of any questions regardless how simple they might have been.
Culture
The office is set out so that anyone can sit anywhere, this demonstrates the culture of everyone being equal, as a summer intern can be sat next to a partner. The general atmosphere was nice with everyone being kind, polite and willing to help, even those outside their teams.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend it. Not only do you learn a lot but the internship is a gateway to a potential graduate role, so if you perform well enough you can secure yourself a job offer in the final year of university.
Yes
Study before each stage of the application, even the game based assessment as there are tricks you can learn to help you through them. GCSE understanding of maths is necessary to complete all the maths tests in the preliminary stages and the assessment centre so revise percentages, ratios etc if you haven't done them in a while
