Overview
The days were comprised of training sessions, which aimed to give us insight into the firm, and working in our allocated departments. We would receive work from our trainee buddies or supervisors.
Skills
In my department, I developed my attention to detail as it was crucial to be very attentive as to the document reviews and drafting. I also developed my communication skills when talking to partners and associates I met. Finally, I developed my drafting skills and research skills due to the tasks given to me.
Business Insight
The sessions we attended gave us good insight into the role of a trainee and the business considerations that occur on a day-to-day basis at the firm. The business considerations were also made more clear when speaking to the fee-earners at the firm on various occasions.
Culture
It is safe to say that I have never experienced such a welcoming, collaborative and supportive environment. Even though everyone works long hours and on challenging deals, they will always be ready to offer help or go for a chat. The teamwork in each department, as well as across the firm, is felt immediately. One of BCLP's strongest selling points is its culture.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed the scheme. I liked the structure, which allowed us to be in a group during a few hours each day to learn about the firm and engage in activities, and also allowed us to have a lot of desk time to work in our departments, helping us to learn about the type of work BCLP takes on as well as what would be expected from a trainee.
Yes
Based on the fact that BCLP wants to carry on this collaborative and welcoming culture, you should be ready to show that you understand the firm well. You should also be yourself and show how you could fit into this environment. Make sure your application is very targeted.
