Overview
My role was in the finance team, with day-to-day tasks including writing emails, researching, interviewing colleagues, and working on ad hoc tasks for other members of finance or other departments. Oftentimes days would also include the opportunity to sit in more senior meetings, meet senior leaders, and have tours of the plant.
Skills
I developed my Excel skills, researching skills, and how to communicate and interact in a more professional environment.
Responsibilities
I was not given that many tasks, but when I was I had near fully responsibility for delivering my objectives. I was also able to plan my own calendar, determine my own working hours, and be an independent employee of the company.
Support & Guidance
I was given excellent support, meeting my line manager once a day. I could also ask anyone around me for help, and receive it near instantly. The support you receive at Rolls-Royce is amazing.
Culture
The atmosphere was not great due to the hybrid nature of the company. The office was not that busy many days, and when it was, many employees were on Teams calls most of the day. They also did not promote much intern-mingling, which meant you did not meet many people without actively trying to do so.
Your Impressions
While I thought I could have been given more work, and I did ask for more, you are given tasks that you can reasonably complete and allow you to learn more about the industry and company. Therefore, the internship was still enjoyable, albeit slightly lacking in real opportunities to gain more skills.
No
I would recommend they learn about the industry, and about what Rolls-Royce actually offers other companies and governments. I would also recommend that they are proactive people, as you will need to search for jobs alone to really gain experience.
