    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • I have worked within different teams at differing stages of the audit process and aided in the completion of evidence gathering. I also have communicated and requested documentation from clients. We also had to participate in a social enterprise group intern project. We had to research a social enterprise and come up with solutions to some problems that they had highlighted for us. At the end of this project, we had to present our findings in a 10 minute presentation, followed by a question and answer session with employees of the social enterprise.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication and teamworking skills during my 4 weeks on this internship as I have worked with different levels of staff within teams around the office and also with other interns like myself, within the intern social enterprise project. I have also learnt a lot of new skills specific to the auditing process, such as evidence gathering and professional skepticism. These skills will benefit me as I progress through my career within audit.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • We had a very good introduction to the business within our first week as we trained along with other interns from all across the region and different service lines. We also worked with interns outwith our line of service during the social enterprise challenge which gave us an insight into what others were doing during their internship, even if they were specialising in a different area to us. We also learnt a lot about the business structure and its values through the task that we were assigned.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very inclusive and welcoming. Everyone within the office and everyone who we met virtually (through team calls or members of staff from other offices helping on our social enterprise project) was very friendly and approachable. People were always willing to help with questions and assist with anything we needed help with, even with simple questions or help with admin tasks when first starting out. The general atmosphere was overall very positive.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the internship as I believe it gave me invaluable insight into the day to day tasks of the role which could not have been replicated elsewhere. The tasks that I was assigned were very interesting and there was such a variety, each day was different and engaging. The social aspects of working within an office environment was also very enjoyable. We went out for team lunches and had an evening social event which helped build relationships within the office and make the experience even more enjoyable.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • The application process has multiple stages, and once you start the first stage, each subsequent stage has a deadline. Therefore, it is best to apply as early as possible. Understanding the company well, through researching their website and current affairs is also very beneficial during the application process. It shows that you know what the company is about, its core values, and also gives you ideas to refer to during the application process and interview stages.
