    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I assisted my other colleagues in the PWC tax team with a range of tasks. I had the opportunity to help prepare presentations and documents for clients and learn about the tax services that PWC provides and how they add value. I was given a lot of independence whilst working but had great support from my colleagues and never felt overwhelmed. Everybody in the team was happy to help me with any qeuries and very supportive with my learning.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have become a lot more aware of the technical side of tax and the skills required in the role. I have also improved my business accumen and have a much better understanding of how to interact with clients in a professional manner. My presentation skills also improved as I had the opportunity to participate in an internship challenge that allowed me to give a presentation to a small business. I believe my communication skills within the workplace also got better over the course of the internship.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes I was given many tasks that I was expected to complete individually. However, there was always a team member that I could speak to seek advice / support. I was also able to be proactive and reach out to other members of the team when I had capacity and take on more responsibility. This was great because I was able to experience what it would be like to be an associate in the actual graduate role.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received A LOT of support and guidance throughout the duration of my internship. I was given a career coach and a buddy who were both very helpful for any everyday questions or more general advice regarding my work at the company. Additionally, many members of the wider team reached out to me and offered their support. I never felt lost during my intership or felt like there was nobody I could go to for help which was very nice.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture at PWC is very welcoming and much more relaxed than I anticipated. The dress code is very flexible and everybody is very friendly and more than happy to help you. The offices are very modern and comfortable and the canteen facilities are very nice. Many people work flexibly so often you are working with people digitally from other offices in the UK. I always felt very happy in the workplace as it was a very friendly environment.

  • I really enjoyed my placement at PWC and had the opportunity to gain real hands on experience in the tax field. The social side was also very good and I got to know my fellow interns really well. We were also given the opportunity to participate in a volunteering day with the company which was very rewarding. I think the support and guidance I received really made my internship very valuable.
