Overview
My day to day role can vary hugely and imagine as a full time worker it can vary even more; I’ve been involved in a range of projects from private client work, to start up business, inheritance considerations and established larger private companies. Working on these projects can involve me taking a variety of roles such as drafting emails/letters, creating diagrams, taking meeting notes and further writing up key points/actions from these meetings, background research and a range of others.
Skills
I have learnt new skills and enhanced those I’ve already got. New skills I’ve learnt include; professional writing, office etiquette, client interactions, taking meeting minutes as well as new techniques from using the PwC applications. Skills I have developed include; networking, increased tax knowledge and using my knowledge of the real world to apply to client situations. My communication skills have also greatly been improved and through a presentation completed on the penultimate day of my placement I have been able to enhance my public speaking skills.
Responsibilities
I feel I was given a good amount of responsibility during my time as an intern. All tasks were explained to me allowing me to give time to ask as many questions as needed with support as needed throughout the different tasks i was undertaking. Although always being supported I was generally given enough responsibility to go off and try for myself whilst knowing that anything I did would be checked by another member of staff before going to clients so I knew there was not too much pressure.
Support & Guidance
I felt I was given a good amount of support/ guidance. I didn't have my hand held but alway knew there were people available to ask questions if needed. The PwC support system is good as they assign you a specific career coach/buddy. This means that you have specific people to reach out to if you need or have any concerns during your internship. I was introduced to the wider team which were all happy to support if needed.
Culture
Goof. All workers are hoppy to chat about work or other. The interns had a good vibe with social being arranged by us on a weekly basis. The company arranged for us to have activities every friday afternoon. Within teams, most interns seemed to have a range of socials to go to and i invited to a few things. The general atmosphere was good but still serious enough to allow for work to be done.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my time at PwC. I felt the work was good and enjoyable with a range of opportunities/projects/clients. The work was enjoyable but what was more enjoyable was the socialising with other interns and workers. I have developed a deeper understanding of tax and the wider current economic environment and how PwC consult with clients to them help them navigate this (although there's still a lot to learn- i look forward to learning this in the future).
