Overview
I provide assistance to my audit team whilst they complete the half year 2 engagement. My day could consist on sorting excel worksheets to include client information, or agreeing our information to agreed final drafts from the client. I worked 8:30-6 most days to take advantage of the summer working hours scheme, and would visit the client site 2 days a week. At our client site visits, I would do the same work as in the office just at the client site; it is more beneficial for senior members of the team who are able to meet with clients to gain more understanding or chase them up on a piece of information.
Skills
I have learned how to use the software required for engagements, which is quite complex at first. I have been able to develop my excel skills, as I have learned different shortcuts to use to make life easier for myself. I have developed my communication skills, as the team is very important to all the work we do here, not only for support but to be able to meet deadlines. I have been able to improve my teamwork through working with my audit team and also the separate project we complete with the other interns.
Responsibilities
No. You get given very basic or mundane tasks that divert the more senior employees time away from more pressing issues. However, as you have not done these tasks before, it takes a while to get used to what you are doing and what the purpose of your task is. I think the level of responsibility you are given is dependent on the size of your audit team, the size of the client and how close they are to the deadline. When close to the deadline, most of the things left to do aren't things an unqualified intern can complete.
Support & Guidance
We were given a career coach and a buddy. I did not see them as frequently as I initially thought I would have t, but it is up to you to arrange extra time with them and to take advantage of their experience and the insights they can offer you.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere is friendly. It doesn't feel extremely strict and corporate as you would initially expect from a Big 4 firm. Everyone just gets on with what they have to do.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed gaining knowledge on the job and talking with the other interns and my team.

Research all of the different lines of service properly before you apply, switching over isn't guaranteed.
