Overview

Responsible for the vendor cost optimization and invoicing process and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.
Skills
In terms of technical skills, this placement significantly increased my abilities within Excel. I also developed an understanding of various automation tools, such as power automate, Spotfire and Power BI. I have had the opportunity to improve my presentation skills and my communication skills. Personally, this placement has also significantly increased my confidence.
Responsibilities
Yes, After I had got settled in I became responsible for a whole set of monthly reports, as well as the conversations with our vendor companies for the invoice. I was then also given the opportunity to lead and project manage several of my own projects that ended up having large contributions to my department.
Support & Guidance
Lots, I was incredibly lucky with my manager, he was very supportive in any direction I wanted to take my placement and really allowed me to tailor the experience to my needs. Sometimes people can have issues with overbearing managers and this was absolutely not the case, he would always make sure I knew I could ask for his support but would only ever step in if necessary.
Culture
Pfizer has really embraced flexible working, you have a lot of freedom with your hours as long as you are making up the time somewhere else. You don't feel pressured to work if you aren't feeling well. It's a positive environment and people take the time to recognise your work. However, it can be hard to connect with your team as you aren't always in the office.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the whole year. I feel like I learnt so many skills that I didn't even know I needed. I think I am in a much better position to go to work after uni then I ever could have been. My manager was particularly great in giving feedback and creating opportunities for me to grow.
Yes
When applying make sure to really look at the application, people make silly mistakes like handing in the wrong thing or not answering the questions properly. But also remember that the interview process is also very much about how you will fit into the team, so if you don't get a place it's not necessarily a reflection that you weren't good enough - it's just that you weren't the right fit.
