Overview
Talking and planning with customers within the company in order to help with their digital needs. Alot of this includes data visualisations using PowerBI or low/no-code solutions using Power Apps. Day-to-day ends up being alot different just depending on the needs of the day. I also spend time on big projects, using Oracle Apex to deal with backend and frontend in app development, with a big emphasis on SQL statements, esepcially with the many databases we deal with in the company.
Skills
I have more just developed skills I already had, to a new proficency. My coding is now alot better, I have become pretty fluent in SQL, and I can also complete tasks related to coding alot quicker than before, without the need to Google everything. People skills have also improved. I am comfortable talking to the majority of the employees in the plant, and able to get my views across in an easy and plesant way.
Responsibilities
Full responability. You really are like your own boss, where you can choose what you work on and what makes you excited. I can create the projects I want and work closely with whoever I choose. This requires alot of time keeping on my part but it is perfect for the line of work in which we work on both porjects with a short time span and a long time span. I couldn't imagine being managed super heavily and being able to be productive. Sometimes I need time to theory craft anwsers which does not bring immediate anwsers but helps in the end.
Support & Guidance
Tonnes of support. The company deals with quite a few interns each year and they know what to do. You are not alone, and everyone learns off of each other. The whole first month is 'shadowing' the previous intern, which gives a nice amount of time to get to grips with the role and what you may be expected to do. Therefore you can be eased in, there is very little pressure to produce straight away.
Culture
Really nice. The team I am in is lovely and everyone supports everyone. There is a greater emphasis to do well as a whole, the plant is only around 1000 members, so you end up knowing alot of the whole plant and want to help them. Obviously the work force is very male dominated, and some of the culture fits in with that which can be uncomfortable, but the majority of the people I have dealt with are kind and friendly.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed myself. I was able to become a greater person and really prepared for adult life and especially university. I have made many friends and devloped new hobbies with my team. I was able to just learn like I would at university, whilst also getting paid and also in a much more relaxing enviroment. I would not change my mind if I was to go back to the end of my second year.
Yes
Research the company. I feel like I could say the same for every internship I applied for. Also understand that you have to be your own boss. For some people that may not be perfect. For me it was. Also understand the plant is a 30 minute walk from public transport. It is a car plant, the majority drive in by car. Also the hours at synced with German time, the work day is 8am till 4pm, not 9-5.
