    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Completing daily tasks and filling in evidence gathering activities. Daily internal interactions with team members ensuring everybody is aware of what they need to do and to what standard we have to complete our tasks. The intern purpose challenge was also a big part of my day to day activities which involved consulting with a small charity helping them to solve real world problems. Also interactions with external clients, when gather required documentation from them.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I developed exemplary communication skills. I developed great professional writing skills. I developed very good financial statement understanding, as this was the main responsibility I had as an intern. I had to ensure to tie out different evidence gathering activities by finding this information in the financial statements. I developed amazing research skills as I would have to find different information about companies on companies house and other various online sources, when for example confirming their address.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility to fill out evidence gathering activities. I would have to conduct my own research and communicate with the client when necessary if they did not provide the necessary documentation that I needed to fill out my evidence gathering activities. I was left alone to complete evidence gathering activities, although I was able to ask my buddy or team members for support whenever I needed extra support to complete my work.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was assigned a buddy who I could ask for any help regarding completion of evidence gathering activities or even with tasks such as expensiving travel costs. He was my main support. I also had a career coach who helped me set my goals and come up with a plan of action to achieve them throughout my internship. My career coach also helped me with gather and submitting feedback at the end of my internship.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The general atmosphere was great. The office in Aberdeen is fairly small and everybody is very friendly and approachable. Everybody is helpful and ready to answer any silly intern questions that may come up throughout the day. The company culture is great, as an intern I felt very supported and did not feel overworked or stressed. Although I was given a lot of responsibility from day 1, there was always someone who I could turn to for help.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship. The work was very real, and I felt instantly included in my team by being given evidence gathering activities to complete and other various tasks. Being supported throughout the process made it a much more enjoyable experience as I was never felt like I was stuck or unable to complete anything thanks to the training and readily available coaching from my team members. We also got to enjoy some free travel to other offices which was nice.

  • 7. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • I would say that accounting knowledge is helpful although not necessary. Interns are given great training and support so that non accounting backgrounds are able to pick it up pretty quickly too. I would say to mainly be focused on you attitude and to always give 100% when at work. Excel is very heavily used so learning some excel basics would be helpful although it is not fully necessary as most of the work does not require any complex formulas.
