The Role
I enjoyed that their were other Placement students during my year here but the job role I was given was not particularly interesting and I do not feel the Placement tutor scheme was useful. I worked very hard and my team and task managers agree with this, however, I was not recognised by my placement tutor (an IBM employee) who decides my fast track employment with IBM.
My team valued my work and often ask for my assistance which made me feel quite itegral to the team. However, I was just in a administrative role and because I was quite busy I was not allowed to venture out of this role much.
My team were not even aware of the placement tutor scheme or the fast track process. Out of the 3 pieces of feedback they were supposed to provide to my placement tutor, only 1 arrived. My placement tutor was not that approachable (she always said she was too busy) and did not provide ANY support or guidance during my year at IBM. Often forgotten to be invited to critical meetings until the last minute with my placement tutor as well. The people in my team were very supportive though.
Only required to perform administrative actions.
I have learnt a lot about microsoft excel and will be able to use this for reporting in my final year of University. I took a project management course but was unfortunately not able to take part in any of the other rare training sessions provided.
The Company
My team were fun and active, we had a few good laughs. However, I only ever got to know the people I was directly in contact with.
I think the induction into the company was brilliant to prepare me for work. However, once I was in the company I was left to feel like I was only here for cheap labour and forgotten about - particularly by my placement tutor. The placement tutor scheme that was brought in for my generation of placement students is not fair and I feel I have been let down by this system. I performed exceptionally according to those that I work with and my manager even tried to fight for me to be fast tracked. I tried to perform exactly how I needed to for my job role and feel I have done very well. Surely the manger who knows the job you are performing can give a better informed decision about being fast tracked or not?
Provided a laptop to work with but that's about it.

Working from home
I have "passed" my placement year and suitable for rehire if I was to apply for the graduate scheme after University but have not been given a job to come back to.
The Culture
Mostly organised by ourselves, the other placement students made this year great for me.
Portsmouth is relatively cheap but you are not able to go out as much as you could at Uni
