Overview
On a day to day basis I have been generating and working on working papers for a number of audit clients. This has involved running walkthroughs and samples testing.
Skills
The most prominent skill I have developed is professional communication. During the internship I have been speaking daily with the client both via email and through online calls. These interactions have given me the opportunity to practise professional communication on a daily basis and focus on consolidating this skill.
Responsibilities
During the internship I was given lots of responsibility. I was in charge of particular areas of the audit, with my work being the final submission. Whilst this was reviewed by other members of the team where I was unsure about details, my documents remained an integral part of the overall audit.
Support & Guidance
During the internship I was assigned a buddy. This was someone I was able to ask everyday questions to and meant I never wasted unnecessary time trying to work out complicated tasks. I also had twice weekly meetings with my performance manager, allowing me to discuss my progress and flag any issues I had encountered during the internship.
Culture
KPMG is a great place to work. Everyone in the office is incredibly kind, friendly and approachable. It's great to be able to sit next to senior people within the office and get to know them and their journeys.
Your Impressions
I have had a great time during my time on the KPMG internship. I would recommend it to anyone considering a career in audit/consulting/tax/any of the other vast branches of KPMG. I can see myself returning to this role in the future and see KPMG as an incredibly desirable future employer.
Yes
Make sure to submit a good CV to stress your technical achievements. Remember that during the interview KPMG are looking more at you as a person and how you fit into the culture at KPMG, so be yourself and build a positive relationship during the interview.
