Overview
Helping with planning applications in the research process, completing pre-application letters, site appraisals, board reports and condition cover letters. Sometimes I was taken to site visits to see the property that was being proposed, and was also taken along to a committee meeting during my time.
Skills
Yes, having not had a background in Planning at all, where I do a geography degree, the internship gave me a complete insight into what Planning involves.
Responsibilities
I was given the responsibility to complete different tasks, however the work was sent for review before being submitted formally through any councils.
Support & Guidance
Having a mentor all the work I was given was overseen. This helped with managing different tasks given to me by different people.
Culture
Really good company atmosphere with lots of general support. Everyone was very approachable so easy to ask questions about anything.

I really enjoyed getting to know and understand what planning involved, and enjoyed being part of a team for my time here.

Ask as many people different questions and arrange to meet people in different teams where possible.
