    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Completing research tasks for R&D reports and looking into private business legislation. Phoning HMRC on behalf of clients. Checking cash tax payments for audit of tax. Rolling forward reports to the current year. Sit in on meetings with a variety of clients and take notes. Compile project summaries for other members of staff before they meet with clients to ensure they have background knowledge. Gathered documentation from an ex-client and drafted a consent form for the release of papers.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills massively from being in this role. I also have further improved on my time keeping since I have to be on time for different meetings both online and in person throughout the day. I also feel i have developed my technology skills through the use of various new platforms i was able to experience for the first time. Finally my confidence in talking to new people has grown too.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the responsibility of phoning HMRC on behalf of clients. I was also tasked with taking notes on client meetings to deliver to the team. I was trusted with larger pieces of client work which had to be reviewed due to their nature as i do not yet have the appropriate training or qualifications, however the timeline on a few of these was tight and so I had to deliver on time.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was constantly supported throughout my internship by my buddy, career coach and others around me. Everyone made an effort to have a sit down chat to get to know me and ask if i needed any help or had questions. Both my buddy and career coach had regular meetings with me to talk about what I want to get out of my internship and how they could support me to achieve this over the course of the month.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The general atmosphere was very positive. Everyone wants to help and support each other. At no point during my internship did i experience any uncomfortable situations, or atmospheres. It was a friendly and welcoming office to work in. The office was a lot more relaxed than i was expecting and at no point did i feel judged or nervous. Everyone made me feel very at ease. People always invited me to get coffee and lunch with them too.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship a lot more than i was expecting to. I was quite nervous before that this wasn't going to be the place or career for me. However, i was very quickly corrected on this. I have felt i fit in well with the team in which i was working in as well as enjoying the actual work. I feel this has boosted my employability, skills, confidence and overall been a very positive experience.

  • 7. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • I would advise other people who are applying to PwC to be yourself as this is definitely something which is appreciated here. Everyone is different and unique which makes it an even more interesting place to work. I would also say it is not the stereotypical big 4 culture/office you are expecting. Everyone is very young, open to ideas, and always trying to be the best version of themselves. I'd also say to apply even if you think you wont get the role - I never thought I had any chance in being here so its worth a shot.
