Overview
The working hours were really flexible and working from home was completely fine, most interns including myself would be in the office everyday from 9-5:30. The first week was training, for the risk interns we got to go down to london in the first week for a day to do training with all the risk interns across the UK which was amazing. The rest of the first week was spent in the bristol office doing training via conference calls. Week 2 to 4 were spent actually working on projects, we would all be assigned to different teams within RMS to do various stuff. My projects were really interesting and there was a heavy element of networking, i.e reaching out to people for catch ups etc. The team i was assigned too were actually based almost entirely in London so it gave me an excuse to work in the More London office for a day which was amazing. Overall it was an amazing experience, the 4 weeks absolutely flew by.
Skills
The skill I improved upon the most was my networking skills, which is incredibly valuable within the big 4. Another skill that I heavily improved was my excel skills, I didn't realise how in-depth it could get with the VBA coding but it was really interesting to figure out.
Business Insight
PwC is an enormous company, to the extent that each line of service almost feels like its own company, but 4 weeks was a good enough amount of time to really understand how the business was structured, not just from a logistical perspective i.e how work is distributed between offices etc but also from a more broad perspective. There is a lot of opportunities to talk to interns in other lines of services so you get an idea of what each line of service is like, you learn when the busy seasons are for each service, how big the different teams are etc.
Culture
The working environment was incredibly relaxed in the bristol office within the RMS team, there was no pressure to work overtime, we could wear clothing that was comfortable as long as it was still appropriate. It was a very friendly environment, you could put in time to talk to people regardless of whether they were a director or an associate. I can only speak to my experience within RMS at bristol. I did hear about interns in other lines of service who were doing a lot of overtime. But in general the working environment is a very friendly and communicative one.
Your Impressions
It was incredibly enjoyable, the work I was doing was really interesting, the people I was working with were friendly and easy to talk to, there were tons of social events with the interns and some socials with the bristol RMS team.
Yes
For the application process just learn as much as you can in about PwC so you have stuff to talk about in your interview, and manage your time well in the assessment day stage of the application, there's a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it in. Once your at PwC, as an intern I cannot overstate how important networking is, just putting in time on people's calendar to talk about their career journey or see if there's any work they can give you.
