  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic experience of working in top class laboratories. Great place to improve your practical chemistry skills in industry

  • Close knit labs groups with daily coffee time spent together means it really is a 'family' experience.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Great mentoring and personal development due to daily close contact with supervisors. They want you to improve as much as you do, as it means they can allow you more independence.

  • The job is what you make of it - so it is always what you need it to be

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once you get going, you can really be of use to the team, and key milestones can be your responsibility if you go for it

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Occasion moments which seem repetitive and that you are learning nothing new, but overall a great new skill set developed, presentations, analysis and report writing.

  • Focussed when needed, but equally open to pub lunches and times for bonding. Office Christmas party a highlight.

  • Cannot complain. Fantastic organisation, always knew what was happening.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You are treated almost no differently from the full time staff. You attend most meetings and are invited to special lectures for the staff and training days alike. Additionally, a weeks training is organised at the start.

  • A hard industry to get into, but fast-track options for applying for a job due to being known already.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Plenty of social opportunities arise particularly with the other students - there are many others (>50)

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not bad - definitely cheaper than London

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Can't really say it is fantastic, but only 30 min by train to London for the real deal.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Sports + fitness centre on site means plenty of outside work sporting opportunities possible. Team building days in some groups involved full days out in a social environment.
