The Role
It was a great opportunity to get to know the company and to find out about the different service lines. The exercises were interesting and challenging, and the entire day was essentially planned out.
It was very easy to connect with the other interns and by the end of it it felt like I had gained several new friends.
This was somewhat lacking (though it was a very short internship). There was some feedback after the first group exercise, but after the assessed exercise on the first day it felt as if we were doing the remaining group exercises purely for the sake of doing them; hardly any feedback was given.
An extremely busy 3 days with hardly much own time at all, but I still rate this highly because a lot of valuable information was conveyed and it was good to get an idea of what it might be like to work at a professional services firm.
It was an insight internship, so there was no real responsibility to give as it was not an "actual" job, it was much more like a training course.
The group exercises were a great was of learning more about group dynamics with groups in which the members are strangers at first. Though feedback was scarce, the feedback that was given (particularly for the assessed exercise about a month later) was very useful in assessing my strengths and areas for improvement.
The Company
Lots of fun interns and interesting staff from PwC who were definitely up for a good time.
Nothing to complain here. Very busy overall, but well organised.
For a 3 day course, the interns got a lot of value out of the placement. PwC emphasised several times that in an ideal world, they would take 100% of the interns on to a full-time position, because they had invested a lot in the placement.
If you pass all the assessed exercises, you are certain to get one of the less competitive jobs and you get a fast-track to final interview in everything else. Even if you don't pass the exercises, PwC doesn't just shut the door, the least you get is an invitation to another assessment day to get another shot.
The Culture
All interns were sociable and fun people. The other interns I met on the placement were probably the most impressive aspect of my internship.
Everything was provided for by PwC; the only thing we had to pay was the trip to Latimer and you can get that reimbursed to you.
There was no nightlife, as it was a hotel in a small town. There would have been no time to go out during the internship anyway.
The 3 days were so busy, there was not much time to do anything else. There were however opportunities to socialise with the other interns after the days program was finished (around 9 or 10pm).
