    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Work in the London Capital Markets team varied from day-to-day. I joined my team often on inspections and was encouraged to go out for a coffee with other workers at the company to better understand their role and how that may vary from my team. As a result, I was out of the office quite a bit. Regarding desk work, I completed a range of tasks: helping with the production of property brochures, getting acquainted with Knight Frank software and using this to draw up tenancy schedules and flag possible investment opportunities for Knight Frank's clients. Alongside this, we were given a couple of Intern projects.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have definitely developed my skills over the 4-weeks. Primarily, I think the scheme has made me become more proactive and has improved my confidence. I think the former skill was important over the 4-weeks as it ensured I would be busy. In moments when I had no work to do I had to be proactive, asking team mates around me if there was any work that I could help with. I think this goes hand in hand with confidence and feeling comfortable approaching people who are in a higher job position than me

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • From the very start I was encouraged to take on responsibility. Despite being a non-cognate (having never studied property before), my team trusted me to handle data and use this to inform their clients' investment decisions. Equally, my team were aware of my level and were always there to answer any questions.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received great support. I was assigned a buddy who was my first point of call if I wanted any work to do or had any issues. I was aware that there were further levels of support available in the Early Careers department, however, never needed to use this.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Knight Frank. Not only did I learn a lot over the 4 weeks, but I am leaving with a plethora of contacts of Knight Frank workers and interns, who have made it clear that I can message them in the future if I have any questions or need any help with my career in property.

  • 7. Would you recommend Knight Frank to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Knight Frank
  • My main piece of advice would be to have unique ideas. For example, as part of my Assessment day we were told to come up with a property trend that interested us. In this case, do something that stands out and isn't typical. Once I secured my place at Knight Frank, I was told the interviewers listened to a number of presentations on company's work on Battersea Power Station. In addition, I think be you and be approachable. Whilst a career at Knight Frank requires a lot of technical knowledge, it is also an incredibly social environment where the company's success depends on its works' ability to create and maintain client relationships.
