Overview
For the first two weeks I sat in the real estate team. I completed tasks such as drafting, proof reading and creating summaries. In the third week I sat in the disputed team where I completed research tasks, took a call note and drafted client emails. Across the whole time I attended talks, fairs and social events. I also met up with multiple people for coffee chats.
Skills
I have developed a variety of skills. I developed my networking skills through attending a partner networking event and teaching out to people for coffees. I developed my proof-reading and attention to detail skills through completing a proof reading task with an over 100 page document. Further, I built on my drafting skills that I had started to learn during the Legal Practice Course.
Business Insight
It was very insightful learning about the business and also roles such as a training contract, associate and partner. I did this through asking questions during my coffee meets. I also learnt about these through attending talks which gave a holistic view of the firm and what more it has to offer, aside from excellent training.
Culture
As HSF is such a prestigious firm I was nervous going into it, however, the nerves quickly subsided. Everyone was extremely approachable and there was a clear open door policy in the office. The firm clearly places a lot of importance on diversity and inclusion and hold firm wide talks on this subject matter. Everyone was always very happy to chat and I felt like I could be my true self.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. It was great meeting everyone from all levels. The social events were very fun and you could tell that the firm put a lot of effort into them. It was really helpful to find out more about the firm in-person.
