Overview
As a vacation scheme trainee you are placed with 2 different teams within 2 different practice areas. Your day to day tasks will differ pending the team and the work that they have available. A vacation scheme is a great way to be introduced to practice areas and their subject matter. As a vacation scheme trainee, you'll be primarily expected to learn about the practice area.
Skills
While on the vacation scheme I was given the opportunity to do multiple research tasks. These tasks gave me a great opportunity to develop my legal research skills. RPC's intranet is setup in a way that gives you quick access to all of the research programs you will need.
Business Insight
Learning about the business and the potential roles available gave me an idea of what RPC focuses on as a firm. Researching firms and reviewing their online marketing material is great, but you can only truly know what a firm is like by being there. Being there and learning about the firm made it clear to me that it was the kind of place that i would like to work.
Culture
RPC's company culture is exactly as promoted. It is a strikingly real space where people are able to bring themselves to work. All of the employees i spoke with (at every level) exuded a sense of comfort and confidence which is rare to see in a field as intense as law. The staff at RPC have created something special.
Your Impressions
I absolutely loved my time at RPC. From the very beginning I was made to feel welcome. It felt as if the staff looked forward to speaking with vacation scheme trainees about the firm and they all did their best to create opportunities for coffee chats. It was a great experience that had the active support of the early talent team and the firm as a whole.
Yes
If applying to RPC, be honest. Understand that you are applying to a firm that wants to get to know you and what you bring to the table.
