Overview
Half of my internship was spent with other interns across the country for a business project. This was a great way to learn agile project management skills, design thinking skills, and presentation skills as the project culminated with a pitch to other managers. The other half of the internship was spent on a placement with internal services management, where I spent time working on data to produce KPI reports.
Skills
My excel skills rapidly increased, and my team members were very supportive with helping me develop those skills. I also learned a bit about agile project management, and got to use that in my business project. More broadly speaking, my collaboration, leadership and communication skills also improved as I was practicing these on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
Yes. I was responsible for sorting out KPI reports which make their way to the top leadership. My team made it clear to me that if I needed any support they could help, and would check in on me. This was great as the responsibility I was given didn't feel daunting this way!
Support & Guidance
Quite a bit. A variety of people in my team gave me advice when I asked for it and would check in on me regularly.
Culture
Brilliant! It was probably the best thing about it. Everyone encouraged me to network with people from different parts of the business, and I was surprised at how friendly people were whenever I approached them.
Your Impressions
I loved it and hope to make my way onto the grad scheme
Yes
Learn a bit about the company values and purpose before applying and mention them in the interview. They also love their 'core people capabilities' so read up about those as well.
