Overview
Worked within one of the subteams of the bank. Day-to-day my tasks varied, but I had a lot of autonomy in terms of getting involved in what interested me. My main project was working on the use of LLMs in the bank.
Skills
I learnt so many skills at NWG: communication, self-development, improved my coding, agile ways of working, time management, and many more!
Responsibilities
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility. Given the placement was only 8 weeks long, there was obviously limitations to how much I could be involved in. However, I always had something to do and if I didn't there were always opportunities for me to be proactive and take on additional work.
Support & Guidance
There was always guidance there if I needed it but there was a nice balance in the sense that I wasn't being micromanaged.
Culture
The atmosphere and company culture was great. Everyone in my team was so helpful and welcoming. I also reached out to wider members of the bank who were always willing to share advice and guidance.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would definitely recommend!
Yes
Be creative and innovative and don't worry too much about your theoretical knowledge. I came into the software engineering internship with limited coding knowledge. No one in the bank expects you to know everything as long as you are willing to learn.
