Overview
I attend meetings and help focus on Risk Transformation. This involves me contacting different Risk departments and collecting information from them and then analyzing this data for efficiencies and how it could be improved. My role has stretched from making questionnaires to send out, to making and maintaining a spreadsheet, holding focus groups and presenting in from of stake holders. There is also an intern project where I and other interns have worked together to answer a question set by the early careers team
Skills
I have developed my time management, public speaking, critical thinking and analysis skills.
Responsibilities
I was very privileged to have been given responsibility and deliverables that made my internship enjoyable, my role wasn't incredibly high level all the time, but i was given tasks and items that mattered and had to be done, having an impact on the organization, no matter how small was very rewarding and helped my immensely with my motivation and enjoyment of my time at NatWest Group
Support & Guidance
I was given a good amount of support and guidance, we had an induction day that gave us a sense of the wider organizational culture. I had daily talks with my manager where we touched base and talked about the day ahead, these were incredibly useful and allowed me to build a good relationship with my manager where i was comfortable sharing my concerns and my skill aspirations so we could pivot some of my work towards those aspirations .
Culture
The company culture was fantastic, I did not meet someone who was not incredibly kind and helpful no matter my query. Being new to office work and the financial sector was not a problem at all and people were incredibly welcoming and patient with a new starter who did not know any of the jargon or have developed skills within risk. They understand you are an intern and are incredibly inclusive and warm within the work.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my internship an incredible amount, the other interns and the graduates surrounding us gave me a sense of community and belonging, something i had worried about given i was not familiar with finance in any capacity before. I was given an appropriate amount of work for an intern and delegated responsbilities where i felt my work mattered and in so doing helped my motivation and happiness. There were plenty of social activities within the interns and i made friends with lots of incredible people.
Yes
Be yourself within the interviews and be kind. You are not expected to know everything but having a robust and kind character will help you extremely. The assessment days are daunting if you haven't done any before, but the atmosphere is great and the other applicants aren't obstacles to overcome, they are teammates and working with them will help you succeed.
