Overview
Role involves working as part of a team to answer scientific questions. Majority of time is spent in the lab on various techniques like cell culture and bio-assays with some time spent in the office for training, meetings and data analysis. Presentations and talks are common and great to improve communication skills.
Skills
Learnt a range of new lab techniques and become confident working in the lab. Developed team skills such as discussing experimental design and understanding how to critique and improve it. Developed presentation and communication skills to range or audiences.
Responsibilities
In the beginning you work closely with your supervisor as they show you how things work in the lab and on site. As you become more confident both you are given more independence and responsibility for getting tasks and experiments done in time. But you supervisors and managers are always there to offer guidance which is really helpful.
Support & Guidance
As much as you need. If you want to be independant there is opportunities to do this. Yet if you need support with anything such as presentations, lab work and even uni work and career prospects the support and resources is there which is really excellent.
Culture
The company has a nice atmosphere and the values really show and everyone is helpful and supportive. Working on a smaller site being the only industrial placement student made the experience a little different and meant to was harder to form a network of other industrial placement students and graduates, yet this is still possible through visits to other sites and participation in opportunities offered.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement and had a really excellent experience. I developed so many new skills which I wouldn't of had the chance to without this placement and I formed an amazing network of colleagues and friends. This skills it has supplied me with I feel will help my further study at university as well as further on in my career.
Yes
Follow the values and enjoy the companies culture. Take as many opportunities as you can as there is lots offered by the company alongside you normal job role.
