Overview
My role involves analysing data and building models which incorporate climate risks for various future climate scenarios to analyse the impact of these risks on residential properties and credit risk.
Skills
I have developed a lot of my existing skills I acquired at university such as python programming, Git version control, SQL, agile development, critical thinking and analytical skills whilst. During my time at the NatWest group I have learnt to familiarise myself with Amazon web services and snowflake which were new, valuable skills I learnt.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. I was integrated with the climate risk modelling team straight after my induction and was given the responsibility of building an aspect of the climate risk model with full autonomy albeit unwavering support from all team members throughout my internship. The combination of high responsibility and plenty of support when required was great.
Support & Guidance
I received excellent support and guidance throughout. I could always reach out to anyone in the team for help when I needed any and had regular one to ones with one of the team members I was working very closely with.
Culture
The company culture was very enjoyable and relaxed. I found myself involved in an extremely supportive, inclusive and intelligent environment full of problem solvers and coders who I could collaborate with and learn from.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and had an amazing time learning about how my skills as a computer scientist/data scientist fit in in the financial services industry. I learnt a lot of new skills, developed my existing skills, and made meaningful connections with a wide array of brilliant people throughout the group.
