Overview
Helping with the desk usually daily business which involves the inputting and managing of data onto various systems ensuring that all systems match and there are no breaks. Wok involved creating and setting up counterparty accounts, SSIs and the different instruments traded.
Skills
I have developed my attention to detail and the ability to prioritise. I have developed my ability to multi task. I have learnt the importance of following procedures and making a note of all that is taught.
Responsibilities
I was given plenty of responsibility. I was working on relevant work that made a difference to the team on day 1 and was always given the opportunity to do the work required myself - never not given work. I was also able to ask for more work / responsibility if I saw that I would like so.
Support & Guidance
I received plenty of support and training. Grads through to VPs were more than happy to train me and encouraged to go to other business areas with whom we interact with to learn further.
Culture
Company culture is super welcoming and lovely. Those at MUFG are always willing to help and will make the effort to make time for us as interns to talk or even to shadow other desks.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it very much. It was a great opportunity to learn about investment banking and the various functions. It was great to be able to sit with various teams and see what they do on a daily basis. I have learnt so much being in the office and speaking to a wide range of people.
Yes
To not worry if you do not know what business area you are most fond of. You have the opportunity to speak to whoever you want in any division. Everyone understands that you are at the beginning of your career and if anything they will help guide you in the direction you think you might want / think would suit you. Make the most of the resources around whilst you are on the internship.
