Overview
I am involved in regularly communicating with suppliers with regards to purchasing parts. Preparing OTD reports. Looking at opportunities for cost reduction. Feeding back lead times to internal stakeholders.
Skills
Communication - Being concise with emails, especially when communicating to global suppliers and feeding back updates to internal stakholders. Teamwork - Working in a part of a bigger team and understanding my tasks to feed into a wider project. Time management - Understanding deadlines and when the completion of certain tasks needs to be fulfilled in order to meet deadlines
Responsibilities
Yes, gradually given more responsibility throughout my placement based on what I was capable of.
Support & Guidance
Lots of guidance from a variety of people, both those I work with as well as a mentor who I was assigned to me at the start of my placement.
Culture
Welcoming atmosphere with friendly approachable people. Primarily an engineering company so Engineering placement students were given more networking opportunities than other placement students.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement and feel as though I have learned a variety of both hard and soft skills. The placement has prepared me for life after university and I feel as though I have gained an insight into potential roles that I hadn't previously considered.

Make sure you read up on the role description and reach out to past Cummins placement student in order to understand what a placement entails. Go out of you comfort zone and make sure you undertake every opportunity in order to get the most out of the placement.
