Overview
On our vacation scheme, our day was split between talks, a graduate recruitment project, departmental tasks, and evening socials. We would sit with our principal, who was an associate, and also keep up with our trainee buddies. At our initiative, we could arrange coffee chats with others in the business.
Skills
The main skill takeaway would be research and communication skills. It takes a lot of effort to compile research into succinct, readable documents, which is a key skill for trainee solicitors. We also learnt how to communicate professionally, and present our work in a way that matches the Linklaters house style.
Business Insight
We had plenty of talks from people across the firm, but we also took the initiative to reach out for coffee chats with those we would like to learn more from.
Culture
We had a very open door policy, and everyone was happy to have a chat regardless of how busy they may be.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the mix of socials, talks, and departmental tasks. I valued the opportunity to complete departmental research tasks, which was a great learning opportunity for how we should structure and conduct effective research.
