Overview
On a day to day basis I replied to emails, answered any queries that managers or interns had, and put out comms about what was happening in the upcoming weeks. I also worked with the other members in my team to help support the other early proffesional schemes that IBM has. I also ran all the inductions for the new interns, setup their laptops and ensurd the had access to all the correct tools before they started.
Skills
Over the course of the year I have become much more technical for example I have learnt how to use different functions on excel and the different programmes that IBM use as well as learning how to make a website. I have also made the most of the IBM Your Learning platform that you can use and earnt badges for the different learning I did. I learnt how to work in a more effective way using the different methods that IVm promotoe such as agil.
Responsibilities
I was responsible for the intern scheme especially the onboarding side, if any of the things I had to do were not completed in time then the new interns would not have had the resources they needed to start their placement in time and also if I didn't complete all the necessary checks then the company would have to answer to different authorities as to why these checks were not completed on time and to the standard expected
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support I was in a team with 4 other interns who were all there to support me and help if things got to much. I also had a task manager who helped with things day to day and answered any questions that I had as well as supporting me if I got overwhelmed. I also had a foundation manager that checked up on my wellbeing and ensured that I wasn't over working myself
Culture
The company culture is great everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful. If you want to look into other areas of the company whilst working you can easily reach out to different people and ask if they are free to have a chat or if they have any meetings/projects that you are able to shadow. The offices always tend to be busy and it is quite a relaxed environment and there are always different social events for you to join in on as well as communities for you to get involved in.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the placement I have met so many amazing people have made some great friends. It also helped me to imporve my confidence massively I have gone from being shy and struggling to talk to people to getting involved in communities, talking to hundreds of people, and speaking to people quite high up in the company. I have enjoyed so much that I decided to come back to the company as an apprentice so I could continue my career with IBM
Yes
I would say don't panic the process for applying is easy you have an application to fill in, a pschometric test and then an assessment centre and if youare successful you will be given job descriptions for roles people the TA team think are good for you. The whole process is very smooth and if you are scuccessful in the assessment centre you get put into the matching pool where you wait to see if a manger thinks you would be a good fit, you are notified constantly about what stage of the aplication process you are at which is really reassuring.
