Overview
The main task of the internship was to complete a research project - research projects were assigned based off areas of emerging interest for the team. The role also includes in assisting other team members with their projects, common activities include produce summaries and organising information. Throughout the internship there were regular opportunities to speak to different people across the company. At the start of the internship the main task was to organise a team-building exercise.
Skills
Developed existing research and presenting skills through the research project and presentation. Throughout the internship there were lots of opportunities to network, developed networking skills. The first task of the internship was to run a team building event, developed organisation and facilitating skills.
Responsibilities
Throughout the internship I was given responsibility for the completion of tasks, such as my research project, but these tasks were quite small and not very significant for the function of the department. I was responsible for responsible for managing my workload and seeking out additional work if necessary - my line manager for support if I needed to find additional tasks to take on.
Support & Guidance
I was assigned a line manager who would check in weekly. I was given tasks from different members of the team who were able to help if necessary. The team was welcoming and made it clear that help would be available if you asked - it was easy to reach out to people and ask to put 30 minutes in their diary for a catch up.
Culture
Everyone was very welcoming and tried to be as supportive as possible. Questions were always welcome and everyone would be happy to have a meeting if you asked.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the internship, in particular the trips to the Cambridge and Macclesfield sites. The main downfall of the internship was that it did not provide as much audit work as I expected.
