Overview
My role as an audit Summer intern involved me working in different sectors within the company on a variety of different audits. I got to know employees from trainees to partners, learning lots about audit and the corporate lifestyle. The role changes everyday, but usually involves meeting with your team and helping them with any of their audit work.
Skills
I have developed my excel skills massively, both from teaching myself as I became more comfortable, but also from other employees who took the time to give me tips. I have learnt new technological skills as I encountered software I'd never used before. I became more confident and developed my team skills as the internship involved meeting lots of new people, and having to reach out to people you'd never met before.
Responsibilities
Yes. You are given actual audit work that needs to be completed for the audited entity, which is a lot of responsibility! You also join in on meetings or go on-site to meet with clients, which makes you feel just as involved as your other team members. There are always people to help with you with tasks, but I'd definitely say the tasks you are given hold a lot of responsibility.
Support & Guidance
The resourcing team and my people manager made me feel very supported, as they were always on hand to help with both work-related problems, as well as general wellbeing. My people manager in particular made me feel really supported and that I could go to her for any questions or help. Most of the teams I worked with also offered lots of guidance and support for the work I was completing.
Culture
I can honestly say the company culture and atmosphere is great. Everyone is so lovely and helpful, and there's just a very welcoming atmosphere. Both on the social side and more work-related side, it feels like everyone is happy to have a chat and give you advice if needed. I would genuinely highly recommend, everyone is friendly, funny and super welcoming. I have personally made some great friends through this internship!
Your Impressions
I can honestly say I really loved it! I never felt stressed or overwhelmed, due to the lovely company culture and friendliness of everyone. You do get given a decent amount of work to do, but nothing too crazy. I've had so many great interactions with other employees, and have loved the social side, getting to make lots of friends in the process! It's varied and engaging work.
Yes
Just be yourself in the interviews and assessment centres! There's such a variety of people who work here, and it's a very relaxed atmosphere, so don't try to be someone you're not. Also, don't worry about having no knowledge or experience with accounting. I do a completely unrelated degree and barely knew anything about audit, but it's fine, they teach you everything you need to know on the job.
