Overview
Assisting the team on tasks from creating or formatting client deliverables (Google Slides, Sheets, Visio etc.), preparing workshops, note-taking during workshops. Participating in daily stand-ups to keep team up to track on activities. Networking with individuals within Management Consulting to understand the different sectors and Go-to-Market, thus increasing my business acumen and ability to build relationships. Completing risk and compliance training, Working on my SMART goals created at the start of the internship, resulting in extra training on Vantage.
Skills
I have learned the following skills: - How to use Google Suite apps (Slides and Sheets) in a professional context, learning the shortcuts in formatting, and how to make it on brand for PwC using their specific assets, - How to use V-Lookup, create pivot tables - Using Visio to create process maps - Take notes in a concise manner following workshops - Networking with those in senior positions - Improved my professional confidence by hosting sessions - Being proactive to help the team
Responsibilities
To an extent yes, I had ownership of some slides in a client deliverable which would be overlooked by the Manager. It is very dependent on the project you are put on, and the team dynamic. The project I was put on, I joined halfway through and requires some prior subject knowledge to full comprehend it, thus most tasks would be given to the senior associate or manager. If you are proactive, and tell your team you have more capacity they may be able to give you more/train you. If you are able to network you could help out on other projects if there is space.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support received right from the start! The student recruitment hold the first day of induction, giving an overview of the internship, who will be your points of contact etc. When you join, you are assigned a buddy who has joined the firm a few months before you, alongside a career coach who assists in creating SMART goals, and can provide useful connections dependent on your interests. The team is also very supportive, there is a very good people-focused culture at PwC.
Culture
Amazing! I have heard that PwC has the best culture out of the Big 4, and it shows - everyone is super friendly and willing to put time in with you if you are interested in knowing more of their work regardless of what grade you are in. You have access in seeing their calendars - I was able to have talks with Senior Managers and a Director. I also experienced a team social during my internship which was a highlight of my time!
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my internship to a large extent. I appreciate having the opportunity of hybrid work, but coming into the office is always great - they had 75% lunches on Mondays and Fridays alongside free fruit and hot drinks. The structure is very dependent on the project you are on, but should allow for downtime for networking. Everyone I met was really lovely, and it has boosted my confidence working in a professional environment. There was also a volunteering day with the other interns.
