    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • During placements, I start by spending time with the technicians to gain an understanding of the work/challenges that go on in that particular operational area. I then start to spend more time with the manager for the team. So, on a day-to-day basis I could be going to meetings relevant to the placement, completing actions I've been given, such as writing impact plans, helping to manage the team, attending training courses.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have definitely developed my confidence in things such as presenting, and I have gained so many people management skills! I also think I have gained a lot of operational knowledge, and skills surrounding operational management. As well as this I have gained skills in using certain platforms such as ViewX and safety qualifications such as confined space.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes definitely, I've been given a lot of responsibility in my most recent placement for managing the team, and leading on certain projects/tasks. Everyone's always very open for you to ask for more responsibility if you feel like you'd like it on a placement.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There is a lot of support. This comes from my mentor, who is someone high up in the business who can help with any concerns/questions/support. Then I also have a buddy who is someone who started the year before me, so it's really good to have their support as they have been on the same scheme. Then my manager and the other graduates in my year also provide a lot of support.
