    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Graduate Leadership Trainee at Anglian Water, everyday is varied. You will have the opportunity to meet with people across the business sector, conduct relevant training, develop your knowledge of the business area, conduct health and safety assessments, solve problems and make decisions, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. This will help you to gain a broad understanding of the business, develop your skills and knowledge, and build relationships with others.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • The Graduate Scheme is split into 3 month placements spanning 2 years. So each placement brings its own opportunities for you to develop new skills and enhance your existing skillset through various training methods tailored to both your needs and those of the business. I have been on a number of courses aimed at leadership, project management and work place safety including confined space training.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given a great deal of responsibility during my placement with Anglian Water. I was involved in a variety of projects, from working on operational incidents to developing new projects that impact an entire business unit. I was also given the opportunity to lead teams and make decisions. This gave me a real sense of ownership and responsibility, and it helped me to develop my skills and knowledge.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • At Anglian Water, you'll get plenty of support and guidance from your Graduate Manager, Mentor, Buddy, and Placement Managers. Everyone is approachable and willing to help, as we all have a genuine interest in the work that we do. Additionally, you can turn to the employee assistance programme, utilise our in house training and reach out to others within the world of water.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company has a fantastic culture, people are driven to achieve the company purpose, positive work is celebrated and teams form solid relationships together. It has to be the best company I have worked for.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoy learning, engaging with people across the business and developing new skills sets. I wanted to develop in an operational environment and Anglian Water has allowed me to do exactly that.

  • Be your genuine self. It may be simple advice but we have received exactly the same advice from many of the company leaders and directors. Be yourself, be willing to learn and ask questions.
