Overview
I worked in the Real Estate team which meant no two days were the same. Largely worked on datasets and producing insights for the team. I also performed adhoc tasks for the fund I was working for and got assigned a main project which involved a lot of financial modelling.
Skills
Given that I wanted to learn more about valuation and the 'finance' aspect of real estate, I developed my modelling and Excel skills significantly. I also began learning VBA to help automate some of the process.
Responsibilities
Yes, my project was directly relevant to the work that the fund were doing and so taking on this task meant there was great responsibility to deliver an outcome for them.
Support & Guidance
The people at abrdn were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Always willing to answer questions and set aside time to talk to me about a range of topics.
Culture
As I mentioned, people went out of their way to say hello and make you feel welcomed. The atmosphere was very friendly and collegiate.
Your Impressions
To a great extent. I had the chance to take on responsibility and also develop new skills whilst constantly learning more about the different areas within investments at abrdn.
Yes
Learn about the different areas of the company and how they interact. Why does abrdn specifically appeal to you? Develop your analytical skills and show how you've demonstrated them in the past.
