Skills
I have gained an in-depth understanding of different credit systems used within the team which are pivotal to the team's core responsibilities. I also had the opportunity to upskill in using software platforms such as Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL and PowerBI. I've developed my network with stakeholders across the organisation to understand data architecture and lineage of Key Data Elements
Responsibilities
I was able to take ownership of daily BAU tasks and was given several opportunities to add value to the team. I was given projects that would be used by the team to enhance operations; for example I produced a heatmap to help identify gaps in the end to end credit process. I gave 5 different presentations giving an overview of the credit environment and how this would affect our portfolio management.
Support & Guidance
I was provided a personal mentor that I met with every week and my manger also organised weekly catch-ups to check on my progress. I felt comfortable to ask questions and the team/organisation were very welcoming
Culture
The culture was very inclusive in that you were able to ask any question and the team would be very welcoming. As an intern, a lot of emphasis is placed on your personal development so it is a great place to start your career.
Your Impressions
My goal at the start of the internship was to absorb as much knowledge as possible and gain a holistic overview of the banking industry. With the support, social events and work given I feel I have accomplished this goal. I have had the opportunity to upskill my soft and hard skills which will put me in good stead going into my 3rd year of university.
