The Role
I have found my placement year incredibly valuable, although I know that this is not a job that I would like to pursue in future
I felt very valued by my supervisor and colleagues that I worked with on a day-to-day basis
I have been given constant support and guidance from my supervisor this year and have always felt comfortable asking questions
The nature of the job has meant that workload has varied throughout the year. However, for the majority of the time, I have had exactly the right amount.
I have been given a great deal of responsibility this year and have definitely learnt a lot from the experience
The placement has improved my confidence, communication skills and ability to keep calm when issues arise - skills which I believe will prove invaluable during my final year and beyond
The Company
The atmosphere was friendly but fairly quiet
The placement was very well organised
We were given a lot of support and training in order to carry out our roles to a high standard.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Future employment prospects are possible but a placement does not mean that you are likely to be offered a job
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst fellow placement students but there were not very many of us compared to other GSK sites
Cost of living is fairly expensive as the area has transport links to London. Socialising in London is great fun but in general very expensive.
There is no nightlife in the local area, so you would have to venture further afield. However, we have enjoyed many nights out in Central London, and the trains usually run until the early hours.
There were very few opportunities that I am aware of.
