Summer IB analyst Review

I have helped my team in their porjects. This has included working on live deals to help companies raise funds so I had to follow investor discussions and help preparing marketing materials. I also worked on producing market updates on private equity markets. Mostly, I had to shortlist relevant investors we could contact for the companies we are working with. Before introduction calls between investor and companies, I had to prepare investor profile to present briefly the investor to our client. I also participated in many investor introduction calls to discuss potential collaboration like introduction to their portfolio companies

Yes mostly developed some skills in the process of an equity private placements. I developed a larger knowledge on the different types of investors, how they operate, what their investment strategy is. I also learned more on public deals and the different categories. I learned how to use bloomberg to look for public data. From observing my teammates working, I also gained a better understanding on how to source new deals and create opportunities for a bigger deal flow.

I have been given a lot of responsibilities, especially by participating in all the calls with clients or investors, My team has also been giving me the lead when we had to do an investor targeting. Internally I was in charge of sending my final output to highest level of management after the work at been revised by some of my team members. For better image, it was not possible for interns to send external emails

My manager and even other team members have been really helpful all the time during my internship. They had planned to take the time to teach us their work by organizing several teaching sessions on each of the type of works like the process of a deal, preparing a pitch or even on public deals. My manager was available during the whole time when I wanted to sit down and discuss about the approach they have to each piece of work which nees to be done

The culture here was really good from beginning to the end of the internship. The HR team did a really good job in organizing events to meet everyone . We also had some social events happening like every Thursday when everyone meets on the terrace during the evening. Also in my team the culture was really good, we take the time to eat and meet up for lunch every day which helps creates a good atmosphere.

The internship here was really good, everyone was willing to help me learn given the short period of time. I also believe this experience will be of great value for my following work experience. I would be happy to come back to the firm for a graduate program if I am given the chance. This is also a great opportunity to work within such a big institution operating on many different products, geographies and sectors.

The process is long and heavy. I would suggest to prepare it long in advance. The application process also requests to be highly organized. I would also suggest to get in touch as much as possible with people working at Nomura. This will help building a network and getting some internal insights on the culture here and how it works. Preparing fit and technical questions for Investment Banking is also necessary before doing any interview
