Overview
Can be working from home or in the office, either way different teams connect virtually using portals to conduct audits, team managers will assign you work and someone to ask questions about, once a week work on a CSR project leading to a presentation in the final week.
Skills
Developed my skills in communications, working with other people all over the world is a big part of this job. In addition, skills in regard to the audit have built upon business finance and just a greater understanding of the corporate systems these firms work on.
Responsibilities
A lot of this internship works on the learn-on-the-job method, and with this lots of responsibility is given after the first week of training, as everyone is inserted into a team and assigned bits of work as part of auditing a real company, obviously assistance is given, but you are still given access to the live auditing document.
Support & Guidance
The initial week of training could have been more in depth but did give a basic understanding of the process, the real training is received when working on the audits, it can get tiring having the ask questions all the time, but the support is given
Culture
BDO has a great company culture, from what I've heard of the other firms in the same industry, BDO appears to be the exception - with understanding managers, good community schemes to give back to society, I would say the general atmosphere is positive.
Your Impressions
This placement is perfect to get an insight into what working in the audit industry will be like, although I would have like a little more in-depth training, the internship achieves what it should, embedding you within real-life teams to get a real experience of what it's like to work for BDO.
Yes
If you want to experience what it's like to work in the audit industry, this is by far the best place to go, be honest about yourself and go into the internship with a willingness to learn, but most important you should want to connect with and meet new people.
