Overview
I worked on lots of data analysis projects where I constructed data-driven decks. Quantitative and qualitative comments and views about headcounts could both be included in the data. My primary involvement in projects was with MD Promotion, where I helped to compile a list of newly hired or promoted MDs who planned to attend workshops in New York. Creating name badges and building decks for more than 200 attendees required administrative and logistical support from me. Planning for succession is another project I'm working on, and I make sure the database is current.
Skills
I have developed in both my soft and hard skills. Since time is of the essence in a business context, my communication has greatly improved. I am now better able to explain my thoughts and opinions in a clear and succinct manner. Being prompt with responses, as well as being a good listener and actively participating in talks, has helped me establish strong client and relationship management. Excel and PowerPoint are technical abilities that I acquired during my time here. especially being able to manipulate data and numbers using the VLOOKUP tool and pivot tables. Presentation formatting and what should be included stylistically were covered in PowerPoint training.
Responsibilities
Surprisingly, I was granted a lot of authority. Although it is up to the intern to direct their summer and experience, you are given a lot of responsibilities right away. This required the ability to schedule meetings and networking events as well as manage your own time and schedule. I was given responsibilities to gather data and create a presentation to show to an MD, and as an intern, you are somewhat given that analyst expectations and roles.
Support & Guidance
Outstanding assistance and direction were given to me throughout my internship at J.P. Morgan. My direct manager was very encouraging, and we would communicate frequently. JPM also assigns interns a junior buddy and a senior mentor to assist with navigating the firm and your career. Both were really encouraging and supportive. There are numerous personnel who look after the interns, and the locals are also quite encouraging. Every step of the journey, managers, buddies, mentors, programme sponsors, and recruiters are involved; it would seem strange to go a day without speaking to at least one of them.
Culture
At JPM, there is an incredible culture and environment. I have nothing but praise for the talent and intelligence of the people. It is frequently informal but also straightforward, depending on the team on which you work and the scope of the responsibilities assigned. People here bring their true selves and characteristics, and the company encourages this. The learning environment is also fantastic; people are eager to share their ideas and experience, and there are lots of resources available to help with learning consolidation!
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. The projects were enjoyable, and the lessons I learned here were applicable across the board for the company and to industry knowledge. I was able to pick up new information quickly and apply it to various situations. The networking and socialising opportunities were excellent, and the CEO down to division and market executives gave many seminars on leadership to the interns. Overall, the work was enjoyable, the team members are wonderful, and the business is unique.
Yes
Understand your motivation for joining J.P. Morgan and look within to find a connection to its core values. The business is professionally organised but yet very responsible, with a laid-back and approachable atmosphere. However, it continues to be highly corporate. JPM is structured fairly office-like and traditionally (unless you are at the other locations), therefore if you like a modern, open-plan environment, you might want to examine alternative businesses. Connect with current employees to find out what keeps them there and how they came to be in their positions. Everyone in this room is very diplomatic and moves deliberately.
