Overview
My role involved doing daily, weekly and monthly reporting for PPE usage, waste disposal and energy efficiency. It also involved completing audits to make sure standards were been met and fixing any non conformities. There was a lot of engaging with all employees from operators to managers.
Skills
There are many skills I have learnt and developed while on placement. I have developed my communication skills along with my confidence. My excel skills are much more advanced than when I started. I have been on multiple courses to train me on completing risk assessments and how to manage people effectively.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement which at first felt a bit overwhelming but I soon found my feet and felt I could take on more responsibility. There is a lot of freedom to push yourself as much as you feel is manageable.
Support & Guidance
I started by having weekly meetings with my manager which really helped me focus. However, after a while these were a lot less frequent and looking back I felt I lost value as my goals became not as clear.
Culture
The general atmosphere is a positive one and I found it very easy to get to know people and work with them. I never at any point felt intimidated by anyone.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the opportunities I was given to not only develop myself but gain crucial experience in the manufacturing field. Even though I was only a student I felt a valued member of the team
Yes
Dont feel daunted by the scale of the company as you will be made to feel very welcome. The handover you are given means you feel you have all the ability to do the required role very quickly.
