Overview
Depends on the rotation but largely shadowing those around me, including my manager. Personally, I had two presentations to work on throughout - my intern presentation and a nature-finance related CIO presentation. Much of my work therefore revolved around creating pitch decks for my presentation. In order to attain the relevant information, I would also schedule meetings with various people from different teams and expand my network.
Skills
Yes. I've become significantly more competent and confident in my PowerPoint and Excel capabilities. Moreover, being in the environment that I was, I was forced to expand my knowledge and understanding of financial markets, specifically how they impact existing and potential clients of the private bank.
Responsibilities
I was certainly given a degree of responsibility, such as the Intern Presentation. However, I feel as though this might be somewhere that can be improved upon. Giving interns more responsibility, more daily tasks, and more deadlines might increase the intensity and stressfulness of the scheme, but I believe it is worthwhile given the benefits that would be reaped in terms of improved knowledge, skills, and competency.
Support & Guidance
Support and guidance was good. I was constantly reassured that if I ever ran into trouble or needed direction for anything, I could ask anybody around me. My managers throughout the internship were very supportive in this regard.
Culture
Very friendly, welcoming, and kind. Not a bad word to say about the culture or atmosphere, it far exceeded my expectations.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very grateful that the firm provided me the opportunity to enrol on the scheme.
Yes
To take some time to understand and familiarise yourself with the culture of the firm. Thereafter, assess whether your values align with those of the bank, and if they do, then definitely apply and give it your all.
